Malaquita´s tracking route

Malaquita left Peninsula Valdés two months after being tagged. She and her calf then headed south along the coast of Chubut province, crossing the entire length of Golfo San Jorge (245 kilometers; 152 miles) in a day and a half. She then remained between latitudes 47°S and 50°S for two months, before beginning her travels to the northeast, to the latitude of Peninsula Valdés. Malaquita remained in this new area of the continental shelf, close to the continental slope, for 3 months. On March 18, 2023 her device stopped transmitting, after she had been tracked for 197 days over more than 12,800 kilometers (7,954 miles).
