Medio siglo’s 33 day tracking route (2,714 km)
White circle indicates last position received.
September 11 – October 15, 2019
Medio Siglo, a young animal four years old or less, was the first whale which had a satellite transmitter attached this season. This individual did not delay his exit from the gulf and after leaving headed directly east at a steady rate until he crossed the continental slope. He then turned south and arrived at the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) on October 14. In one month he traveled more than 1,300 kilometers. Sadly contact was lost with Medio Siglo one day after he had reached the waters surrounding the islands.
The color of the dots follow a time sequence where the green dots represent the first locations in this period and the red dots the most recent locations, progressing through yellow and orange. The last position, indicated by a red dot with a white border, shows the geographic coordinates and time of reception of the transmission.
